  • NurseAid was founded as the Edith Cavell Fund for Nurses in 1917.
  • Edith Cavell was executed in Belgium in 1915 for helping allied forces escape from the germans.
  • After appeals in national newspapers for donations to nurses to help nurses returning from the first World War war, The Nation's Fund for Nurses was set up to provide relief for individual nurses in times of sickness or disablement.
  • The two organisations came together in 1922 as The Edith Cavell and Nation's Fund for Nurses'. The title 'NurseAid' was adopted in 2002.
  • NurseAid has been helping nurses for over 93 years
  • 2,422 grants have been awarded in the last 6 years. We have also supported over 1,000 nurses with a regular weekly grant.
  • Last year our grant applications rose by 12%. During January 2010 we have seen applications increase by 76% over the same period during 2009.
