travel scholarship

NurseAid funds an annual travel scholarship The Edith Cavell Scholarship which is currently £6,000 per annum. The Scholarship is administered by the Florence Nightingale Foundation who assess all applications and make recommendations to the Trustees of NurseAid who then decide the award. If you are interested in applying for this, or other travel scholarships, from the Florence Nightingale Foundation then please follow this link for more information on how to apply.

In 2007, for the first time ever, two Edith Cavell scholarships were awarded:

Julia Taylor is an advanced Nurse Practitioner in Urology based at Salford Royal Hospital Foundation Trust. She is going to study the role of the nurse practitioner in Urology with a special focus on continence. She will be visiting specialist centres in Australia. The results of her work will be posted on the website when it is completed.

The second award went to Angela Walsh who studied models of children’s community nursing services in Northern Ireland and England. Angela Walsh is Children's Community Nursing Manager for North Cumbria within Cumbria Primary Care Trust. Having undertaken joint general and sick children's nursing Angela took a career path that focussed on children with life threatening and life limiting conditions - including paediatric oncology, cystic fibrosis and hospice care, around the country. Since moving to Cumbria in 1999 she has been instrumental in the introduction and development of the Children's Community Nursing Service.

Angela is married with three children aged 8-13 who keep her very busy and they all enjoy a wide range of family activities together including occasional fell walking when the weather is fine!
